The future of the UK’s energy mix continues to be the subject of intense debate and speculation. Geopolitical and economic pressures have upped the ante, and the world is a very different place from 2022 when the results of the ScotWind leasing round were revealed and the successful offshore wind developers were awarded seabed leases. 

In total, the ScotWind projects are predicted to have a capacity of up to 30GW with the potential to power millions of homes as well as contribute massively to Scotland’s clean energy and climate targets.

What sort of research and investigation is carried out to design the windfarm and understand the conditions of the project site, which sits 84km off the east coast of Scotland? 

While offshore wind turbines may sit miles offshore, delivering the energy they generate to homes and businesses involves crucial infrastructure on land - and this is where landowner and occupier  engagement becomes pivotal.

Specialist contractors for the proposed Ossian floating offshore windfarm have completed a vital survey along a 420km stretch of seabed. 

A campaign to gather more than two years’ worth of wind data crucial for the development of the Ossian floating offshore wind farm has been completed. 

A series of face-to-face and online consultation events are being held for members of the public to learn more about the Ossian Transmission Infrastructure and provide feedback on its early-stage proposals. 

XOCEAN has successfully completed a detailed geophysical survey along the 420km export cable route for the proposed Ossian floating offshore wind farm in the North Sea.

One of the largest floating offshore wind projects in the world has taken a step closer to becoming reality with the submission of the consent application for its offshore array to the Scottish Government.

Across the globe, we have ambitious targets to improve our climate and ensure the world is left in a better place for generations to come. Key to this will be generating the STEM skills required to make this happen and guaranteeing the projects and initiatives we are working towards have true longevity.
